To those who live in warmer climes we have had record snow fall.  This December beat all previous records for December with over 30 inches of snow (and that's measured at the airport where nobody lives and where they always get less snow that we in the suburbs get).

The first picture is of the street we live on (actually it's not a street but an access drive), the 2nd is our house and the third is of the icicle forming outside our bedroom.  The pictures were taken shortly after the storm last week and the pile of snow is even higher now because crews came and cleared part of our roof in order to prevent ice dams.

Part of the process of eliminating ice dams was to put "salt socks" along the edge of the roof perpendicular to the roof line in order to create a channel for ice melt to run down and off the roof.  A salt sock is exactly what it sounds like it is - a sock filled with salt.

I wish all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
